Cute pics.

Not to put words in his mouth. But we always think he's thinking "what the heck is going on? what is this place?"

Sleeping with momma.

Well he is a snuggle butt. He loves being held especially by his mom. It's because to him I smell fantastic!

Anyways. We need to make this little guy a chunky monkey. He has not really gained weight since birth. His body prioritizes and it wasn't at the top of the list apparently. The doctors think he has not gained enough mass and muscle to cough effectively and this led to his failed extubation. We are going to try and fatten him up so we can get rid of the breathing tube.

As frustrating as it was to get it put back in everyone is confident he will do well once we get him bigger. It may be awhile. (doctor said at least a few weeks) We will just have to see.

Michael is such a joy to us even with his breathing tube. He will wake up and just start to wiggle. I keep telling him he's dancing. We love to dance. Dad keeps saying he's kicking. We are already training for Tae Kwon Do. : )

Well we lasted about 14 hours breathing on our own. We are now re-intubated. Not sure why he pooped out. Will update when we know more.

Big Update!!!

A lot has happened in the last few days. First of all his umbilical cord FINALLY fell off. Before they life flighted him they started iv's in the veins in his cord. That's why it took almost 6 weeks for it to fall off, but I was happy when it did.
Pictures from yesterday. He has the greatest eyes.

Sucking on a pacifier.
For those who didn't notice we took out the breathing tube today!!!!!! As you can see from his expression he's not quite sure how he feels about breathing for himself since today is the first time he's had to do it for more than a few hours. As of the time of this post it is going well. He is our little trooper. This was a huge hurdle to get over. We still have more to do before we can bring this little guy home.

Update

He's such a cuddle baby.
We love when he's awake. He spent so much time laying on his left side his cheek is more swollen, so it's harder for him to open that eye, but we think it's cute.
Trying so hard to stay awake.
Bright eyed and bushy tailed. Ready to take on the day, or at least the little bit until he falls asleep again.
Wrapped up tight.

We are working on getting him ready to get the breathing tube out again. He does things at his own pace so we will have to see when he is ready.

We are so attached to this little man. He lights up our world. Can't wait to bring him home.

Holding our baby

Our first family pic.
Giving Dad Michael.
Dad was so happy to finally get this little guy in his arms. I think Michael liked it a lot to.

Mom holding Michael. I was at the hospital by myself when this happened, so there aren't as many pics of me holding the baby. It was the absolute best feeling in the world. I cried of coarse.
He loved being rocked. He was totally relaxed.

What has happened this week. Well he got rid of his central iv lines which means we can now hold him. It is an ordeal but definitely worth it. Also we tried to take out the breathing tube. I got to hold him for a few minutes while it was out. But for reasons that are way to complicated to go into here he went back on.

He is still improving a little every day. We will get there. It is the most amazing thing to hold your baby in your arms. We waited a month to be able to do it. I never wish that on anybody.

Keep him in your prayers still. We still have a long road to go down.

more pics

We saw this car on the way to the hospital. We both think the lift kit is ridiculous. lol

WARNING: reader beware. some of the pics below are heartbreaking. It shows our adorable baby with his closed chest incision. Look at own risk.

Our baby is still the cutest baby in the whole hospital. Also we have upgraded in the last week to "not the sickest kid here" that's what the nurse said. We will take it!
Cute head shot.
He'll impress the other kids with these battle scars.
my hubby made me put this one up.
Still so stinking cute. Just waiting for things to get better. He's definitely doing it at his pace. We are down to just one chest tube now. He's working on all the other stuff.

We love this look he does. He totally has personality already. The nurse yesterday gave him a bath and she said afterward his eyes followed her around the room giving her the "evil eye" He is so adorable. Still waiting to hold him, but everyday he gets a little bit better.
