Crafts I made

This is a hooded towel. The stitched part goes over the head and then the towel wraps around baby.

Baby bibs
I thought this would be cute to hang on a doorknob or on the wall to remind everyone to be quiet.

As a general rule I don't hand make items for people when they have babies anymore. It is a lot of work. I am very particular about what I will make for others and more importantly whom.

Crafts

sock monkey with boy and girl outfit
crochet kittys

bath mittens for kiddos in the tub.

All of the above were made for me by Grandma Joan, also known as my best friend Teresa's mom. She is so talented. I bought the books with the patterns and she did the work. She is by far the more invested of the two of us. I absolutely love them all and needed to share their adorableness with everyone. I have been working on some stuff of my own lately but as they are gifts and have not been given yet I can not post pics. I will post some soon though.

Holy crap it's almost thanksgiving! Then right around that fun little corner it is Christmas. Where does all the time go to.

Well I thought I would make a little post since it's been a while. Hmmm.... what's going on with us. not a whole heck of a lot. Working, working, oh and more working. Sometimes I think that's all we do anymore.

It will soon be our 8th anniversary. Can anyone believe we have been married 8 years! It's definitely had it's good and bad times. I'm glad I had an awesome shoulder to cry on through the bad, and someone to cheer me on through the good. I couldn't have married someone better. I have to work on our anniversary and much around it, since it is so close to thanksgiving and people don't take the holidays off from being sick, so we celebrated early. We went and saw RED, which was way funny. Then we spent the night at the anniversary inn. That was fun. We have never been there before. We stayed in a cabin type looking room. It was worth going, and we will probably try and do it again sometime.

I have recently started training to run. I am not training for a specific race just getting healthier. I have never been able to run ever. Not even when I was super fit and swimming 2+ hours every day. So the plan is I get on the treadmill and run when I can and walk briskly in between. I will build up from there. It is slow going and I am not even willing to post how little of it I actually run, but it's getting better. I am teaching myself to not hyperventilate and breath a little slower. Instead of one breath with every single step I am trying to breath like I did with swimming where it's in for a few, out for a few. Harder than it sounds for me but we will see.

Not much else to report. I can't believe anybody will actually read all of this.

school

So apparently I have decided to go back to school to become a smarty pants. I am still torn on how I feel about this. I am not the biggest fan of school, but feel it is the right thing to do in my life right now. I call everyone who is a nurse going to school a smarty pants. I only need a few classes to get in to the baccalaureate program at the u of u. Then it is a year and a half of online classes. I figure since it is only that much more schooling I might as well get it out of the way so I can eventually be a super smarty pants and get my master's degree in something. (that would be a long way off)

On another note everyone keeps asking me when we are going to start trying to have another baby. On one hand I feel that this is nobody's business, but I also understand that people just care about us. So if you were wondering we are thinking about trying sometime in the nearish future. I am not going to disclose exactly when because there are some other factors involved.

We are generally doing very well. I will be spending the next few weeks applying at slcc and the u of u. sending my transcripts, etc. Meanwhile O'ryan started back up a paradigm high in the mornings and continues to teach nights at wasatch. Things are going well with both programs.

rainstorms and butcher paper

So I work graveyards, therefore I sleep during the day when I can before I work. Sunday I went to sleep after church because I needed to stay up all night and work. It was raining. In our back yard we have a covered patio. I believe it is aluminum or something similar. When the rain falls it makes a pitter patter noise. Today in my half asleep nonsense I ask O'Ryan, "why are the neighbor's playing with butcher paper?" This makes no sense. I was picturing the neighbors outside with long rolls of butcher paper waving them around making the noises.

one year

Well our little Michael would be one year old today. I'm not going to lie, it really really sucks. There is not a day that goes by that we don't think about him, and wish we could hold him, change him, see him grow, hear him cry. Just posting some pics of our three months with our little man.

I don't know that a wound like this ever really heals. I try to usually be upbeat in the blog, but I just can't do it today. You find yourself wishing you could have done more. Been at the hospital all the time. You hate yourself for every minute you couldn't be there. I know Michael is waiting for us and is in a better place. I just hope it's somehow easier for him waiting for us than it is for us to wait to see him. We love and miss you baby.

Oh the freaking excitement.

Well last night we bought a new stove/oven and microwave/range. Are we remodeling you ask? no. Did we have a lot of extra money sitting around and wanted to spend it? no. The reason would be a small kitchen fire. My sweet sweet husband was cooking for me while I was sleeping, and turned on the wrong burner. The burner he turned on happened to have the noodles he was getting ready to cook as well as the tupperware he was going to be putting it in. It caught on fire. He put it out very quickly and the only damage was to our stove. (now unusable since the knobs melted off and the buttons were charred so much you couldn't read them) and the microwave/range above the stove.

After the insurance adjuster came we went to R.C. Willey's clearance center and got an awesome deal on a scratch and dent oven. We looked and looked and couldn't find a scratch or a dent on it anywhere. We also bought a new microwave. They are both black which doesn't totally match our kitchen, but hey the price was right and it's not like my house is all matchey matchey anyways.

O'Ryan will be picking up our new stove tomorrow. The top is one of the ceramic flat tops. The reason we picked the one we did is it has like 5 burners on top. one is a warming zone and keeps things just below a simmer. The front two have two different sizes depending on which way you turn the knob. One is small and the other is large. Also the oven has a convection option. I have never used that before, but the sales guy said it makes things cook more evenly because it circulates the heat so you don't have any hot and cold spots in the oven.

That is it on the excitement for now. Hopefully we don't have anymore for a while.

The movie we have been waiting for.

And no it is not the next twilight movie. The Last Airbender (or as I like to call it, The real avatar movie) is coming out this weekend. It is based off of the nickalodeon tv show avatar the last airbender. We are so freaking excited. We own the entire series of the show and m. night shyamalan is making the movie. How much better can it get. I encourage EVERYONE to go out and see this movie.

Vacation

This is O'Ryan on the ship at the merritime museum. We went there on our last day they have all these really cool old ships, and some submarines. He is definitely too tall to have been a Russian sailor. He could barely fit through the doorways.
We went to La Jolla cove on our last day. They have this walkway that goes around and you get right by all these seals (i think that's what they are) They are so funny. They bathe in the sun and then the water starts to splash them. Instead of getting up and walking they just bounce. it's hilarious.
I think we got the white and black one mid bounce with this picture. there were some swimming in the ocean with some scuba divers also. It would have been fun to be one of them.
On the walkway going around to the seals.
This was at the San Diego zoo. it was overcast and cooler this day so the animals were playing more. The zoo lady said that the cat's are very active when the weather is cooler.
the jaguar. he came right up against the fence.
We caught two of the rhinos "playing" they played pretty rough and i think we saw some blood on one of them.
The tiger.
The peacock strutting his stuff.
Us measuring against a gorilla at the wild animal park. this was the only day it was truly hot.

Story about the porcupines. the pic related is lower down. as we walked by this exhibit the first time one of them was climbing on the gate up and down and up and down. it was so cute. we had to walk by the exhibit on the way back just a minute or two later and they were getting fed. the zoo keeper says they do that when they here her cart pull up. it was funny.
an awesome pic of the condor.
see he's climbing the gate. it's funny.
This guy walked right into the pool of water as we walked up. it was a great view.
They had three newborn elephants if you look you can see the 3 week old one hidden behind the tree a little bit.
This lion was right up against the glass it was a great view.
in the same exhibit. we laughed because i've gone out to my car and found little kitty paw prints before.

This was the seagull show at sea world. i can't believe they give them a show all on their own. j/k we were waiting for the dolphin show and i thought it was funny.

anyways we had an awesome time. we relaxed a bit and slept in and just had fun. we need to do this more often than every 8 years lol.

On a last note Happy Father's Day to O'Ryan. We went and saw the A-Team which was actually pretty good.

Vacation update a few pics in no particular order

Us comparing to the wingspan of a condor. This was at the wild animal park we got some awesome pics of different animals but i don't want to take the time to upload all of them. look for them after we get off of vacation.
the dolphin show at sea world. i know you can't see the dolphins in this one.
How O'Ryan measures up to a polar bear... i think the bear would win.
This was at the hotel we stayed at in vegas there is a pool with a slide and the slide goes through a shark tank. it was pretty cool. I also learned that the slot machines hate me. I lost a whopping 20 bucks. didn't make a cent. we were playing the nickel slots. Teresa on the other hand turned her 20 into 140 or so. We are jealous of the winner. j/k it was fun. well we are off to the san diego zoo. will post more later.

Sooo close

Tonight is my last day of work till we go on vacation! I am so excited. We need it. So the plan is work tonight, sleep tomorrow and clean the house/catch up on laundry. Saturday going grocery shopping and packing. Then Sunday morning we are off!

I will try and post pics while we are on vacation, but i make no promises.

Wednesday, May 19, 2010

So I haven't blogged for a while. I did my breast cancer walk. I can not believe how many people were there to run and walk. It was literally thousands. It was awesome and fun. Harder than I thought it would be but fun

Also better late than never O'Ryan had his birthday on the 12th. He is getting old! j/k babe. He says he had a great birthday. I had to work so we didn't celebrate until the weekend. We went and saw Iron Man 2 and went to Johnny Carino's for lunch. He got a bunch of stuff for his psp. Not any surprises though.

And last but not least this is my little note for anyone going into the hospital. I am currently at work, and I am taking care of a patient who has coughed on me at least 6 or 7 times and i still have 9 hours left in the shift. Why do people think that nurses don't care. I promise we do. Cover your mouth regardless of where you are. It is still disgusting even if the person you are coughing on doesn't get grossed out easily. thanks.

I'm walking a 5 k

I know it's not like running a marathon, but lets face it it's not like I'm in the best shape in the entire world. I do weight watchers and their thing for the summer is to walk a 5 k. My best friend Patti and I have chosen to do the Susan G. Komen race for the cure in SLC on May 8th. We are excited and it goes towards a good cause. The way I figure it (here comes some fantastic statistics) everyone either has breasts or knows someone with breasts and therefore will know someone that gets breast cancer. So here's my challenge to people that read this. Race for the cure yourself, you can also sleep in for the cure, or even just donate some money. Like I said it's going towards a great cause. Just visit this web site for details.

http://www.komenslc.org

I am not usually big on causes but it's a good one.

In other news we are going to Cali in June. We are super excited. We have been married now for about 7 and 1/2 years and have never been on a vacation. I know, I know. It just seemed like we always had other things going on. But after the last year we had we feel like we just need to get away. So thanks to uncle sam's tax return we are going to sea world, san diego zoo, and san diego wild animal park. I'm sure we will spend a few days just vegging on the beach as well. We are driving there with my other best friend Teresa and her kids. We will be spending the night in las vegas on the way! I can't say how super stoked I am. Will definately post pics. If anyone knows of some great inexpensive places to see in San diego for us while we are there please comment. This includes awesome beaches where we can just sit and read a book and go swimming. I want to have a lot of fun.

lost in the move

How do things get lost in a move anyway. You pack everything up and unpack everything. This weekend I noticed I was missing some of my vast collection of undone cross stitches. We tore the entire house apart. (which is now a mess yay!) We even searched my sister's house thinking we'd left it there. My cute hubby says, "I'm sure it's in the crawl space." Well my friends it was not in the crawl space. The answer to this dilemma was "under my husband's crap in the garage" who knew? needless to say one messy house and a lot of time later i am very happy to not have to try and replace these items since most of them are now out of print.

I know a meaningless story but i hadn't posted for a while and thought i'd give everyone a laugh because we've all been there.

what i've been up to lately.

This one the pic was kind of blurry, but the one below the flash is right on Eyeore's face

We put this one up in the nursery.

So I've been doing these and a bunch of little cross stitches. Trying to keep my mind occupied. It works, most of the time.

Funny story. O'Ryan and I went out of town to a resort Sat. night. They have an indoor pool. There are signs everywhere that you need to shower before you get in. So I went to the doors for the bathrooms/showers and walked in one. There's this cleaning lady inside giving me a very strange look. Then I here my husband say, "Um... babe. Why'd you go in the men's room." I laughed and went in the ladies. There was luckily no one but the cleaning lady in there. It's nothing I haven't seen with my profession, but I'm sure some guys would be embarrassed. I later said to O'Ryan, " I couldn't figure out why she was giving me such a weird look, now it all makes sense." LOL.
